AIDM, BUDC secure first-ever US patent

KARACHI: The United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) has recognized the pioneering work on Pressure Sensor Impression Tray by researchers at the Altamash Institute of Dental Medicine (AIDM) and Bahria University Dental College (BUDC), making it country’s first-ever dental patent.

The team of inventors behind this breakthrough includes Prof Dr Naseer Ahmed, Prof Dr Rizwan Jouhar, and Dr Asra Salahuddin from AIDM, alongside Prof Dr Afsheen Maqsood from BUDC. The development of the Pressure Sensor Impression Tray is set to revolutionise prosthodontic procedures by improving the accuracy and precision of dental impressions.

These trays provide real-time feedback during the impression-taking process, ensuring optimal force distribution and enhancing the quality of dental restorations.

This collaboration between AIDM and BUDC marks the first time a dental institute in Pakistan has been granted a patent, underscoring their commitment to innovation, research, and excellence in dental education.
